What is the floppy disk capacity, and did it vary between different types of floppy disks?
I'm trying to understand floppy disk capacity because I know there were different sizes and formats over the years. What were the common storage capacities for 8-inch, 5.25-inch, and 3.5-inch floppy disks, and why did some hold more data than others? I'd appreciate a simple explanation.

Floppy disk capacity varied by type. Common sizes included 360 KB, 720 KB, 1.2 MB, 1.44 MB, and 2.88 MB, depending on disk size, density, and formatting standards.

Yes, it did depend on the type of floppy disk. For instance, older 5.25-inch floppies could hold 360 KB to 1.2 MB, while a 3.5-inch floppy would normally hold 1.44 MB of storage space.
